What Is NYT Connections?
Connections is a word puzzle game that was published and developed by The New York Times as part of its game section. It debuted on June 12, 2023, and became fans’ favourite in no time. This game is the second most popular one that is released by The New York Times, following Wordle.
Wyna Liu is the editor at The Times and Connections’s puzzles. She creates new puzzles every day and brings them to the publications. The game can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices.
How to Play NYT Connections
You’re given 16 words with a grid in Connections. Your goal is to arrange them into four groups by figuring out the themes or links between them. The groups could be anything related to movies, accounting, exercise tools, etc.
Each of the four groups is colour-coded which tells users their difficulty level. The yellow group is the easiest category to figure out, followed by green, blue and then purple. The purple group is often the hardest one which involves wordplay.
Sometimes, a misleading clue is given to confuse people which is shown in the red category. This usually happens when a word can belong to more than one group, but there is only one right answer. If you get stuck at any point and feel confused, you can shuffle the words to rearrange them on the screen.
Liu suggested players are to wait as long as they can before guessing because if they make an incorrect guess, they’ll lose a life. A user has four attempts to choose the correct link between the four groups of words but if the user makes four mistakes, the game is over.
